South Asian Journalists Association

SAJA Reporting Fellowships

Overview

The South Asian Journalists Association Fellowship program is designed to promote in-depth, long-form news reports covering issues which are often ignored or given only fleeting coverage by the media. Examples of these are news of natural disasters, accidents and scandals which are often prominently featured as "Breaking News" over a few new cycles, spanning a few days but whose long-term impact are seldom covered in depth, if at all.

Reward

Each project is likely to receive between $3,000 and $7,000 at SAJA's discretion. If a winning proposal requires additional support, the SAJA board has the discretion to provide more funding.

Eligibility

The SRF program provides funding support to individual journalists who take the effort and time to conduct in-depth investigations, interviews, on-site visits and report on complex topics relating to South Asia which not covered well by the mainstream media. SRF grants are intended to reimburse selected journalists for out-of-pocket expenses incurred to travel and report on the topic.
