The Orion Environmental Writers’ Workshop is a week-long program designed to foster a community of writers passionate about nature and environmental themes. Guided by award-winning instructors, participants engage in intensive craft practice, faculty readings, lectures, and panels on publishing. The workshop aims to deepen the relationship between writers and their environments, encouraging creative exploration of ecological topics
Participants will receive individualized attention and feedback from faculty members and Orion editors. The program includes breakout sessions, student readings, and discussions with literary agents and editors who provide advice on publishing. Workshops are offered in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.
The Orion Environmental Writers' Workshop is open to writers of all nationalities and experience levels. It welcomes those interested in nonfiction, fiction, or poetry that explores the intersection of nature and storytelling.
Applicants must submit a cover letter and a writing sample—1,000 to 1,500 words for prose or up to six pages for poetry.
