McCloy Fellowships on Global Trends

Overview

The McCloy Fellowships on Global Trends provide emerging American and German professionals with the opportunity to conduct independent research on critical global issues, such as national security, climate change, urbanization, sustainability, digitalization, public health, and economic policy. Named after John J. McCloy, a key figure in transatlantic relations, the program aims to strengthen understanding and collaboration between the United States and Germany. Fellows receive financial support to travel and engage with experts, policymakers, and institutions relevant to their research. The program is designed to foster cross-cultural exchange and innovative solutions to pressing global challenges. Since its inception, it has supported over 1,000 fellows in developing their expertise and expanding international networks.

Reward

Fellows receive a $7,000 stipend covering travel expenses, including transatlantic airfare and domestic travel, as well as room and board for a minimum of 21 days. American Fellows travel to Germany, while German Fellows travel to the United States. Fellows are required to organize a detailed day-by-day itinerary in collaboration with the Program Director and must complete their fellowship within one year from the selection date. Upon completion, fellows must submit an analytical report on their findings suitable for publication by the ACG and present their research to the broader ACG audience, either at an in-person event or as a webinar.

Eligibility

Applicants must be either U.S. citizens residing in the United States or German citizens residing in Germany. They must have completed a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and be in the relatively early stages of their careers. Alumni of the ACG’s Young Leaders program or study tours are eligible to apply but must wait three years after their participation to do so.
