Overview
The Fund for Investigative Journalism provides grants to journalists for investigative stories that break new ground and expose wrongdoing. These grants support projects across various media, including print, online, and broadcast, aiming to foster impactful investigative journalism worldwide.
Reward
Grants of up to $10,000 USD are awarded to cover out-of-pocket expenses such as travel, document collection, and equipment rental. FIJ also offers seed funding up to $2,500 USD for preliminary reporting, follow-up grants up to $2,500 USD for additional coverage of original investigations, and expedited grants for urgent stories.
Eligibility
Open to freelance journalists, staff reporters, and media outlets worldwide. Investigations can be for print, online, or broadcast stories, books, documentaries, or podcasts.
Application Requirements
Online application form. Brief summary. Full proposal including investigative plan. Budget detailing fund usage. Letter of commitment from a media outlet to publish the story. Background information on the journalist.
