The Whickers Film & TV Funding Award supports emerging filmmakers worldwide, offering one of the largest grants for first-time directors of feature-length documentaries. Established to honor the legacy of journalist Alan Whicker, the award funds director-led projects that introduce fresh perspectives and highlight untold stories.
Winners receive £100,000 to produce their debut feature-length documentary, while the runner-up receives a £20,000 development award. Finalists pitch their projects at Sheffield DocFest, where the winners are announced.
Open to directors worldwide working on feature-length documentaries (50+ minutes) in late development or early production stages. Projects must be accessible to English-speaking audiences, either in English or with subtitles.
