Established to honor public service journalism, the New America Award recognizes work that explores and exposes issues of importance to immigrant or ethnic communities in the United States. Collaboration with ethnic media is considered but not required
Winners are honored during the President’s Banquet at the SPJ Journalism Convention and may be invited to participate in panel discussions on best practices for reporting on immigrant or ethnic communities.
Open to media outlets, journalists, community and issue advocacy groups, individuals, and others concerned with ethnic issues. Entries must have been published or broadcast during the previous calendar year.
Online entry form. Cover letter explaining the significance of the issue, obstacles encountered, and benefits gained. Entry fee payment. English translations for non-English entries.
